The many faces of Roger Steffens. Great story teller and Bob Marley collector.
Happy Birthday Bob
I was so honored to donate one of my books ( www.samdiephuis.com/book ) to Roger Steffens‘ reggae collection yesterday. What an amazing guy! Every time I hang out with him I am inspired.
Here’s the intro to his Wikipedia page. It doesn’t do him or his collection justice but…
Roger Steffens (born June 17, 1942) is a Brooklyn, New York born actor, author, lecturer, editor, reggae archivist, photographer, producer. Roger is perhaps best known for his reggaearchives, in particular his archives of Bob Marley. Six rooms of his home in Los Angeles house his archives, which include the world’s largest collection of Bob Marley material. Based on these archives Roger lectures internationally with a multi-media presentation called “The Life of Bob Marley”. Roger’s radio career began in New York in 1961, and was co-host of the award-winning Reggae Beat on KCRW in Los Angeles and was syndicated on 130 stations worldwide in the 1980s. Roger has two children, Kate and Devon.
50 Years!!! Congratulations Jamaica!!! Also, special thanks to the Backayard crew for putting together such a great mag. Big ups to the best reggae mag out there!!! Thanks for giving my images a great place to be featured.
If you don’t have this issue go out and get it, keep it forever, and show your kids and grand kids.
Most reggae fans or travelers to Jamaica will find this pretty funny. This is from the back of The Reggae and African Beat Magazine from 1986.
